Furkid Entertained Indoors

Keeping your furkid entertained indoors, 24 furkid-approved ideas. Part 2

Welcome to part two of this list of furkid fun. If you missed part one you can find it here.

Laser toys

Laser toys are usually associated with cats, but I’ve personally seen some doggos that love a bit of laser chasing. They get really excited and run around after the little light. Remember your furkid will be focused on the light, so it is your responsibility to make sure you shine the light in places where your furkid will be safe.

Bubbles

Another fun thing to do with your furkid that does not need you to be very active, is to have him/her chase bubbles. All you have to do is blow bubbles and watch your furkid jumping around and having loads of fun. I haven’t tried this with Luna, but Phoebe used to love this. When I was online the other day I even saw that they now make peanut butter-flavoured bubbles for doggos.

Treat dispensing toy

Doggos love these toys as they get treats just by playing with it 🙂 Again, there are many really cool treat-dispensing toys on the market. If you love some DIY, this is a very easy toy to make.

Chew toys & flavoured chew toys

Chewing is natural for dogs of all ages and chew toys can be a great way to keep a pup entertained, especially in small spaces. Depending on the age of your furkid he/she will be more or less excited about chewing. A puppy needs a lot of chew toys, but remember to get chew toys that are made especially for puppies as they are made for baby teeth. When your pup becomes an adult and has adult teeth he/she will need adult chew toys as these toys are made for adult teeth. Remember that different textures are great for variety. You can also get one of two flavoured chew toys. These are great for taste variety without adding more calories to your furkid’s day.

Dog puzzles

Furkids love puzzle toys as they are great mental challenges. There are so many great dog puzzles on the market, but you can even make some DIY puzzles for your furkid. Some puzzles are more food-focused puzzles that you can use at mealtime to slow down your furkid’s eating speed, while others are more game orientated even if treats are involved. If you can get a couple of puzzles and rotate them that would be great fun for your furkid.

Take a car ride

Some furkids just love car rides. If this is your furbaby, it is a super easy way to spend an hour.

Stuffed Kong

Getting a Kong or two for your furkid is an awesome investment. The more you have the easier it is to rotate them. Make sure you get the correct age-appropriate, size-appropriate and bite-appropriate Kong for your furkid. You can stuff your furbaby’s Kong with any healthy dog-friendly treat that he/she enjoys. You can even freeze it to make it last a bit longer. I make Luna’s Kong first thing in the morning and pop it in the freezer. by the time it is mid-morning the Kong is nicely frozen and I can give it to her to chew while I get some work done. For work-from-home dog moms, it is also nice to time it so that your furkid gets his/her Kong for the day when you have a video call meeting.

Obviously, treats are full of calories so stick to one stuffed Kong a day and keep your furkid’s diet balanced between healthy food and healthy treats.

Doggy yoga

Furkids love spending time with their pawrents and when their pawrents are making strange moves into strange positions it is even more fun 🙂 Doing yoga or really any at-home workout and involving your furkid is so much fun for him/her. Try teaching him/her som yoga poses for extra fun.

Dog massage or Grooming

Most doggos love a good massage. If you have the time, consider doing an animal massage course. Your furkids will thank you for this. If you don’t have the time for that, you can simply make their grooming part of their indoor fun. Being brushed is a favourite of many furkids.

Dog TV/Music on Youtube

Search for “dog tv” or “dog music” on YouTube. Some dog moms and dads leave this on for their furkids when they have to leave them home alone.

New toys and toy rotation

The mental and physical stimulation of giving your furkid a new toy to play with can entertain them for quite a while. There are so many great toys for furkids on the market. To keep your furkid from getting bored with all his/her toys at the same time, rotate the toys. Don’t have everything out at the same time. Have two toys out and when your furbaby gets bored take them away and take out two other toys. I also like keeping the flavoured chew toys out of the toy basket completely. That way I can use them when Luna gets bored with everything.

Playdate

Arrange an indoor playdate with one of your friends that also has a furbaby. Either go and visit them or, if you have the space, invite them over to your house. Alternatively, taking your furkids to visit their grandpawrents is always a hit as well.

For doggos mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise so make sure you pick a combination of activities that will satisfy your furkid’s needs.
